Judo

For many, Judo has devolved into a sport. Not here!

Derived from Jujutsu, the hand to hand arts employed by the Samurai class of Japan, Judo was formulated by Kano Jigoro Shihan in 1882 and taught at his dojo named, ‘Kodokan’ At just 22 years old Kano had created what is arguable one of the most brutally efficient forms of self-defense ever created.

While for many Judo has devolved into a sport; Judo in its purest form is a combat art that uses techniques such as throwing, holding, choking, hitting and kicking to subdue an opponent.

Beyond a fighting method, Judo aims at character-building. Kodokan translates to “a school for studying the way”, ‘the way’ being the concept of life itself in which one strives to live a life of improving self and community through positive thought and action.
