Re-Opening News! (covid 19 update)

After an agonizing lock-down, we will be back in business beginning Monday, June 29, 2020! Thank you for your support, patience, and generosity as we navigated our way through re-opening in a responsible and safe manner.

Our number one priority has and always will be the safety of our members. After across-the-board inquiry and consultations with medical professionals in addition to governmental agencies guidelines, we have decided to institute a modified (and frankly more complete) protocol suggested by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation. We will therefore be temporarily instituting the following changes in class protocols and schedule in order to allow us all (members and coaches, alike) to safely train. We will re-open in a three phase plan that will carry us through the month of July.

Please know that the changes of phase one and two are temporary and will perpetually be reassessed and possibly adjusted in light of the rate of infections in Lackawanna County, the advice of experts, the experiences of other gyms across the country, and our experience. We understand that everyone has their own beliefs regarding this virus and we respect that – we just ask that you know that we are doing the best we can to supply the maximal amount of training in the safest way possible within the governor’s guidelines.

Phase One: June 28-July 11 Solo Drills The Art of Movement

There are plenty of essential skills that can be developed through solo drills. Body weight workouts can have a major impact on an jiu-jitsu practitioners strength and stamina. Coach Jeff has designed a series of workouts that will serve as education/reminder on how to perform some basic movements and examine several ways to include some beneficial and fun exercises into member’s training to help develop strength, endurance, body control, core stability, coordination, and much more. The workouts are designed to start with basic movements and progress to more advanced movements over the course of the class. These movements are the foundation all most all jiu-jitsu movements. They require strength, stability, mobility, coordination, and balance. Being able to move in jiu-jitsu is vital. If we can’t support the correct positions and movement then we are a recipe for disaster and injury.
