Important Concepts For a Better BJJ Spider Guard

This past month we have taken the time to begin exploring the connections of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu open guard; and one of the areas we have been focusing on is Spider Guard. We have taken the time during class to discuss two essential details of this tricky guard that are absolutely essential to its success: pressure and counter-pressure. These BJJ concepts are among those that can be difficult to recognize if you don’t know what you’re looking for. So in this video we take the time to dissect the critical concepts of pressure and counter-pressure and show you exactly how to generate these forces using the grips and hooks of the Spider Guard.
